Spring Branch Community Health Center invites YOU to join the Host Committee for our 15th Annual Fall Harvest Luncheon by contributing to our event scheduled for October 10, 2025 at the Junior League of Houston. Every year, the Fall Harvest Luncheon generates funds that are crucial to the development and support of sustaining high quality, patient-centered education and wellness programs. Programs such as free prenatal education, nutrition and diabetes management classes, and free cancer screenings can lead to behavioral and lifestyle changes that realize our mission to increase the number of healthy families in our community by providing high quality, comprehensive health services.
Keynote Speaker
Lisa Wright
Lisa Wright is the current President and CEO of Community Health Choice (Community), a non-profit managed care organization serving the Greater Houston Area. Lisa has dedicated over 16 years to advancing healthcare access, focusing on providing affordable insurance programs and implementing initiatives that support underserved communities. Under Lisa’s leadership, the organization has achieved record-breaking membership growth and forged impactful partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations. Recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of 2024’s Top Diversity Leaders in Healthcare, Lisa has also been honored with the 2024 Stevie Award for Woman of the Year in Healthcare and named among the Top 30 Influential Women in Houston.
Prior to her role at Community, Lisa served as a President of Medicare for WellCare, where she directed and led the execution of Medicare business strategies and operational plans for seven states. She also held several positions at United Healthcare and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Lisa's leadership at Community has driven the organization's growth and diversification leading to significant achievements in addressing social determinants of health. Under her guidance, Community has grown to over 550,000 members, partnered with 25,000 providers and 100 community organizations, and introduced new product lines.
Lisa’s focus on cultural inclusivity, community outreach, and health education has resulted in groundbreaking initiatives that address critical issues such as mental health, food insecurity, and economic empowerment. Her collaboration with the Harris County Public Health Department on the ACCESS Black Maternal Health program provides essential support for healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries, addressing alarming maternal mortality rates among Black women. Additionally, Lisa developed the CareerReady program, a workforce development training program that provides job certifications, tuition support, and pathways out of poverty for expectant mothers and young adults on Medicaid.
Beyond healthcare, Lisa's impact extends to mentoring and supporting children. She serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston as well as Vericel, a company specializing in advanced cell therapies for sports medicine and severe burn care. Lisa's involvement with her local church community as a Sunday school teacher and her unique perspective as a foster parent further reflect her dedication to service and community.
Lisa completed the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and was invited to participate in management and executive development programs at Centene/WellCare and United Healthcare. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Maryland and a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Kentucky.
The Faillace Award Honoree
Rep. Lacey Hull
Lacey Hull is a native Houstonian who was born and raised in House District 138, attended Spring Branch ISD schools and earned a bachelor's in political science and history from the University of Houston. First elected in 2020, Lacey and her family live in Spring Branch and attend Bayou City Fellowship Church.
Lacey currently serves as Chair of the House Committee on Human Services which covers issues about which she is passionate, including child welfare and services for disabled Texans. Lacey was also appointed to serve on the State Affairs committee and State Affairs subcommittee on Telecommunications and Broadband. She serves as the House of Representatives’ ex officio member to the Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth, and Families.
Lacey was also selected by her colleagues to once again serve as Vice-chair of the bipartisan Criminal Justice Reform Caucus. Lacey is a also proud advocate for the economic prosperity of the Houston area through her membership of the Texas Legislative Ports Caucus and the Aerospace Caucus.
In 2024, Lacey was appointed to serve on the powerful Sunset Advisory Commission, which regularly audits state agencies and programs. She was also appointed to the Joint Committee to study the Effects of Media on Minors.
Lacey has championed legislation to protect victims of crime, particularly crimes against women, safeguard children online, provide protections for the rights of families in the public education and child welfare systems, and passed laws prohibiting the use of restraints in elementary schools. During her freshman term, Lacey worked to pass her principal bill, "John and Joseph's Law," which requires the reporting of missing persons to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
Prior to being elected to the Texas House, Lacey worked with a variety of nonprofits to advocate for policies that protect the liberties of Texas families. As a State Representative, Lacey is committed to preserving individual liberty, unleashing economic opportunity, ensuring public safety, and providing quality education for all students.
Healthcare Hero Award Honoree
Lharissa Jacobs
Lharissa Jacobs is the Founder and Executive Director of Fit Houston, a non-profit that promotes free physical activity in under-resourced communities. As the former Vice President of Health Strategies at the American Heart Association (AHA) in Houston, she worked with clinics and community partners to maximize equitable health and well-being. She has spent the past two decades advocating for healthy communities. Prior to joining the AHA, she pioneered and led a large portfolio of evidence-based programs focused on child nutrition and chronic disease prevention for the YMCA of Greater Houston.
Lharissa is a Senior Fellow with the American Leadership Forum and alumna of McKinsey & Company Asian Executive Leadership Program. Lharissa is on the Board of Directors for the UH Health Family Care Center, Houston Tool Bank and The Common Market Texas. She is dedicated to using her professional experience and innovative thinking to support sustainable and stronger communities. She has a master’s degree in education and an M.B.A. from the University of Houston and speaks Spanish.
Lharissa is happiest in the great outdoors, often running with friends, sprinting after two lovable terriers, and spending quality time with her husband and two children.
Healthcare Hero Award Honoree
Ricardo Barnes, M.A., L.P.C.
Family Development Center
Mr. Ricardo Barnes’ career has been dedicated to promoting the well-being of children and families by empowering them to reach their full potential. As the Executive Director of the Spring Branch Family Development Center, which he opened in 2001, Mr. Barnes has spent the past 24 years
building a successful multi-agency collaborative model. This model is focused on providing low-income families with bilingual resources in the areas of education, recreation, health, and social services, all in one location. Each year, more than 14,000 individuals receive services at SBFDC
through the efforts of over 10 agencies.
Over the past two decades, the trust and rapport that Mr. Barnes has established within the surrounding community have resulted in the Center becoming a community hub where families seek out information, resources, and support. By maintaining close contact with families and regularly assessing their needs, Mr. Barnes has become an important relationship broker between the community and agencies seeking to make a meaningful impact.
The most recent summer disasters, the Derecho storm and Hurricane Beryl, severely affected SBFDC’s immediate community of 7,000 residents on Pitner Road, leaving thousands of children without access to power, food, and air conditioning for six days at the time. Mr. Barnes provided
leadership and coordinated responses among Federal, State, County, and City governments, as well as nonprofit organizations, churches, and community volunteers. By leveraging various resources to meet the community's needs, over 40,000 hot meals were served, along with distributions of ice and water, and opportunities for residents to apply for aid through FEMA and other recovery services.
His current focus is on developing the Aspire Resource Center on-site. The Aspire Resource Center will provide the community with invaluable access to tools and knowledge to enhance their life and wellbeing by making available a cutting-edge library and other resources to the community.
A native of Panama, Mr. Barnes graduated with honors in psychology from Saint Thomas University in New Brunswick, Canada. He completed his Master of Arts in Clinical and Community Psychology at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Since 1980, Mr. Barnes has worked
with children and families in many settings including incarcerated youth, outpatient settings, inpatient settings, partial hospital settings, and schools. Before opening SBFDC Mr. Barnes was the Director of Outpatient Services at DePelchin Children’s Center. Mr. Barnes has resided in Houston, Texas since 1985. He and his wife of 33 years, Jane, enjoy riding motorcycles, travelling to other countries, and taking care of their dogs, Honey Bunny and Molly May. In his spare time, Mr. Barnes enjoys riding mountain bikes and racing cars.
