Donor Impact – August

Highlights of Recent Grant Awards and Donations

Generous financial support from corporations and charitable foundations is funding SBCHC programs that are having lasting and tangible effects for our patients and members of the communities we serve. Here are a few of the recent ones we have received:

Episcopal Health Foundation supports the addition of a medical provider at SBCHC’s Northwest (NAM) Clinic

The Episcopal Health Foundation (EHF) has awarded SBCHC a generous grant to fund the hiring of a Nurse Practitioner at our Northwest (NAM) Community Health Center to open access to care for low-income, uninsured children at this clinic. The new medical provider is helping to alleviate shortages in healthcare services for uninsured and Medicaid patients. By handling routine care like school physicals, vaccines, and developmental checks, the nurse practitioner relieves the current pediatrician to care for patients with more complex needs. In this way, supported by EHF, SBCHC can increase the number of new patients the clinic is able to see, open more same-day ‘sick visits,’ and increase the number of children who have all their age-appropriate vaccines.

George and Mary J. Hamman Foundation helps patients’ health through a grant for transportation.

If a person cannot make it to their doctor for treatment, their health suffers, and many vulnerable residents of our community do not have reliable transportation, negatively impacting their ability to access preventative and primary health services. Through a generous gift from the George and Mary J. Hamman Foundation, SBCHC is now able to assist our low-income patients travel to and from their medical appointments. Using Lyft, Uber, and/or bus passes, we can offer patients rides from their homes to our clinics and to specialty care appointments. The grant also funds transportation to and from health education events hosted by SBCHC’s Community Engagement Team such as nutrition classes, prenatal education, and health fairs.

Bank of America funds the ongoing delivery of care at SBCHC.

A generous grant award from Bank of America is supporting SBCHC to increase our capacity to continue providing medical and social services to the rapidly growing vulnerable populations in the west Houston area. These funds are benefitting those who most commonly encounter barriers to accessing health services by covering the true costs of care including staff time, clinic supplies, technology upgrades, and funding Community Engagement opportunities. This charitable gift from Bank of American supports SBCHC’s objective to not only be a quality health center, but also to open access for social services, giving patients and neighborhood residents greater opportunities to achieve wellness.
