National Health Center Week 2023
SBCHC observes National Health Center Week August 6-12, 2023
Spring Branch Community Health Center observed National Health Center Week August 6-12, 2023, to celebrate and advocate for Community Health Centers that serve the healthcare needs of America’s most vulnerable residents.
Sponsored by the National Association of Community Health Centers, the annual National Health Center Week takes place during the first full week of August to celebrate and increase awareness of America’s 1,400 Community Health Centers. National Health Center Week focuses attention on the dedication and spirit of service of Community Health Center staff, board members, and supporters for these neighborhood resources to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare services to more than 30 million patients annually.

2023 Theme: The Roadmap to a Stronger America
This year’s theme is The Roadmap to a Stronger America, and each day of the weeklong observance focuses on a different group of people who are essential for and contribute to the success of Community Health Centers. Here are highlights from SBCHC’s celebration of the Week:
Healthcare for the Homeless Day – Monday, August 7
The Supportive Housing Team’s first ever “Drop Your Socks Campaign” collected a total of 685 pairs of new socks from all of our clinic and Admin locations and distributed them, along with hygiene kits, to 212 individuals in our area who need them. Thank you again to all the staff who participated and donated.

We would like to express our appreciation to Commissioner Lesley Briones for the invitation and the recognition. Thank you for the hard work you do, especially for improving the health of our communities.
Patient Appreciation Day – Wednesday, August 9
Clinic staff offered 180 gift bags to patients who came in for their scheduled appointments on Wednesday, August 9. As we said in a text message to all patients: Each year during National Health Center Week, we set one day aside as Patient Appreciation Day to express how honored we are to serve you and have you as our patient. We are humbled that you have entrusted Spring Branch Community Health Center with your healthcare. Thank you for being a part of the SBCHC family and have a wonderful Patient Appreciation Day!
Stakeholder Appreciation Day – Thursday, August 10
SBCHC Leadership hosted local elected officials and partners at two of our clinics. CEO Marlen Trujillo met with Dennis Littlejohn from Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee’s office to lead a tour of our Pitner Clinic and to thank the Congresswoman for her continued support of Community Health Centers and her advocacy for more funding. Dr. Trujillo also received a Congressional Certificate of Recognition from the Congresswoman. Lakeye Hurd of the American Cancer Society toured our West Houston clinic and received a Certificate of Appreciation for their support of various initiatives and programs.
Health Center Staff Appreciation Day – Friday, August 11
Continuing with National Health Center Week, we celebrated Health Center Staff Appreciation Day by recognizing and thanking all staff who through their dedication, commitment, and compassionate care put patients first in everything they do at SBCHC. Community Health Centers are the heart of their communities and are led by individuals who are passionate about serving others and improving health outcomes. Thank you to each staff member for choosing to be a part of the SBCHC Family! We appreciate each one of you!
National Health Center Week TikTok Challenge
As part of the week-long celebration, SBCHC also hosted a TikTok Video Challenge for each clinic or Admin site to showcase their part of the Roadmap to a Stronger America. Housing Support Services submitted the winning video highlighting their work to provide Permanent Supportive Housing, Homeless Prevention, and The Youth Homeless Demonstration Program. Their video was also submitted to the National Association of Health Centers for their NHCW Video Contest, and their entry won this national competition, as well!
Congratulations to Housing Support Services! Way to go Team!
