Walk For Wellness

SBCHC Continues Long History of Community Involvement by Hosting Walk for Wellness – Save the Date of May 20, 2023

Spring Branch Community Health Center Spring Branch Community Health Center (SBCHC) announces they will hold their Annual Walk For Wellness fitness and health fair on Saturday, May 20th from 8 am to 11:30 pm at Hollibrook Elementary School, 3602 Hollister Rd, Houston, TX 77080. SBCHC created the recurring neighborhood event as a way to engage and educate families in the community about the importance of healthy life styles and physical activity and to encourage all the residents of the Spring Branch community – families, individuals, young and old – to come together for a morning focused on improving their health and wellness. Despite more than one hiatus, the last caused by COVID-19 precautions, the walk returned to in-person participation last year, and the 2023 Walk is shaping up to be bigger than ever.

In partnership with Spring Spirit Youth Sports, Corporate Sponsors, community organizations, and local healthcare providers, SBCHC hopes this fun, family-friendly event will offer to the neighborhood a day of activities and education to highlight the importance of regular exercise and good eating habits for overall fitness and physical wellbeing in order to prevent or improve chronic health issues. Many business partners and community organizations will be on hand to offer free samples and useful information to encourage participants to live a healthier life. Plans for the day include games and contests with prizes for winning participants, free giveaways, the Houston Dynamo Street Team, Rope Warriors Jump Rope Team, and fitness advice from Blink Fitness. This year’s event is just latest example of SBCHC’s long history of involvement in and commitment to the community of Spring Branch and West and Northwest Houston.

Since 2012 when SBCHC hosted the very first Walk for Wellness, the event has been another opportunity for the agency to serve the neighborhoods around their clinic locations. That first Walk for Wellness faced the uncertainty of the possibility of storms and heavy rain, but the community came together to promote health and wellness. As CEO Marlen Trujillo said at the time, “We were worried that we’d have to cancel. But despite the weather we have a great turnout.”

“We are so excited to again have a live, in-person event for this year’s Walk For Wellness,” says Dr. Trujillo. “After COVID-19 forced us to cancel the 2020 Walk, we hosted the event virtually from many of our clinic locations in 2021. But in 2022 we returned to an in-person event. Being able to gather with our friends and neighbors in one place again for a second year is really a special way to do what we can to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to our community.”
