Patient Story: Needs beyond Health Services
Our Patients Need More than Just High Quality Health Services
A recent series of misfortunes which befell one of our patients highlights just how vulnerable many of the patients are who come to us for medical services. This patient suddenly experienced an emergency medical situation that sent her to the emergency room and kept her in the hospital for a some months. During this time, she ended up being evicted from her apartment, and her little girls ended up in being placed in foster care. After two months of hospitalization, the patient is now with her little girls and they are living in a borrowed apartment.
Our staff has been working tirelessly assisting her and the girls with supportive services to live and survive. We are extremely grateful to every staff member involved with this patient’s care including Dr. Kanesan and Dr. Gonzales for providing medical care to the three girls, to Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Krusleski and Ebony for taking care of Maricela’s medical needs, and to our community health staff Paulina, Sylvia and Cindy for connecting the patient to all available social services. Thanks are also due to our housing staff for working on connecting her to housing services. Lastly, heartfelt gratitude is due to our frontline staff who have welcomed this patient and the girls at our clinics.
Every patient that walks thru our doors has a personal struggle that we don’t always hear about. It is our responsibility to make sure each of them feels comfortable in our clinics and trusts our providers enough to share their stories. SBCHC attempts to foster trust so that each patient, and their families, can receive the best medical care and supportive services when they are in our clinics. We are honored and humbled that through donations, grant awards, and longstanding partnerships with community organizations, SBCHC is able to provide much needed services and assistance that goes beyond the high-quality health services we are known for.
